Dear Overseas American,
As we approach the
election calendar you should know that Federal
law permits all US Citizens over 18 years of age who reside
overseas, regardless of whether they have a current
stateside residence, to vote in the Presidential
and Congressional elections.
- US citizens outside the United
States (not affiliated with the Uniformed Services)
[can] vote in the state or territory where they last
resided immediately prior to leaving the United States,
even if many years have elapsed and the voter maintains
no residence in the state or territory and the intent to
return to that state or territory may not be certain.
- Overseas citizens can obtain an
absentee ballot and register to vote by filling out a
Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) and mailing it to
their local election official.
- The FPCA and information on where
to send it, can be obtained through this web site or at
your local US Embassy or Consulate.
- You can obtain voting information
for your state from this web site or by accessing the
Federal Voting Assistance Program at
www.fvap.gov.
- You can also contact us and we
will put you in touch with our Republicans Abroad
Chairman in your Country who will be happy to assist
you.
- Most states permit overseas
citizens to fax in their FPCA. You can fax the FPVA at
the following numbers: 703-693-5527/800-368-8683; DSN
(military) 223-5527.
- If you do not receive your ballot
by mid-October 2008 and your application for a regular
ballot has been received by your local election official
at least 30 days before the election, you can use a
FEDERAL-WRITE-IN-BALLOT (FWIB), which can be downloaded
from this site.
- You can also obtain a FWIB through
your local Embassy, Consulate, or Republicans Abroad
Country Chapter. You will need to vote and return your
actual ballot when it is received from your state’s
election official.
We at Republicans Abroad want to thank
you for helping keep American on the right path.
With warm wishes,
Joan Luke Hills |
